"As the late Bobby Short made apparent, a little jazz—with its insistence on spontaneity and invigorating swing—can give cabaret a needed kick in the pants. Eric Comstock stirs up action from behind the piano in a regular spot at this midtown venue; he’s joined by his wife, cohort in repartee, and fellow-singer Barbara Fasano, plus the redoubtable bassist Sean Smith. No surprise considering his time in the cabaret trenches, Comstock speaks the language of standards fluently; Porter, Rodgers and Hart, and their ilk are like family, but Bob Dylan, Carole King, and Todd Rundgren have been known to slip into the mix."
~ Steve Futterman, The New Yorker

"In their Saturday evening series at Birdland,
Eric Comstock & Barbara Fasano consistently put the lie
to the old adage that you can't improve on perfection.
Joined by the formidable bassist Sean Smith, they celebrate
iconic songwriters in a seamless blend that proceeds forward
as if driven by an unstoppable force."
~ Will Friedwald, critic & author of the definitive
Nat King Cole biography STRAIGHTEN UP & FLY RIGHT
"Eric Comstock has quite a little striptease act
happening at Birdland these days ..."

"Balance lies at the heart of the most effective jazz-leaning cabaret acts. Insuring the right amount of overt charm, reverence for the past, instrumental bravura, and in-the-moment connection with an audience is an art carefully perfected with experience. The pianist and singer Comstock has the goods, and, in tandem with the superb bassist Smith, he will offer expert musicianship and joie de vivre in equal measure."
~ Steve Futterman

"Knowing all the songs he does, Comstock changes his material everytime he sits down anew at a club.
What doesn't alter is his tongue-in-cheek charm as he plays, sings and/or speaks ...
Be there or be very 21st-century square." ~ David Finkle

Hailed as "a dispenser of cabaret caviar" by Stephen Holden in The New York Times, pianist/singer ERIC COMSTOCK returns to Birdland with songs by everyone from George Gershwin to George Harrison. Bassist/composer Sean Smith cut his teeth playing with Gerry Mulligan, Peggy Lee and Rosemary Clooney. Sean's newest CD, TRUST, is a collection of his compositions & has received rave reviews. "Poise is such an apt word in describing Sean Smith. He has an unlimited future straight as the crow flies" (Jazz Times). Joining them is vocalist Barbara Fasano, praised by The New York Times as "a lyrically sensitive intepreter with a special affinity for Joni Mitchell" and by The New York Post as "a gorgeous, soulful singer who has an actor's intensity in whatever she sings." Her most recent CDs BUSY BEING FREE and WRITTEN IN THE STARS both won the MAC Award for Major Recording of the Year.

“Suave, smart, funny and utterly delightful ...
A connoisseur's connoisseur of pop-music esoterica,
Mr. Comstock is the truest heir to the much-missed Bobby Short.”
~ Stephen Holden
